RiverBluff Cannabis is proud to have made themselves apart of the Roselle, Illinois community over the past year. They’ve loved meeting everyone and hearing their stories. Still, it dawned on them that even though they’ve learned so much about Roselle and its citizens, but YOU may not know exactly where they come from, who they are, and where they are going. Prepare to hear about four wild cats with determination and a dream, a weird little city on a burnt river, and where that dream is taking them next. So, kick back in the cut, fire one up and let’s learn about some RiverBluff Cannabis stuff.
Where it all started: East Dubuque, Illinois
The three siblings were raised in East Dubuque Illinois while Josh grew up across the river in Dubuque Iowa. The cities sit near the tri-state intersection of Iowa/Wisconsin/Illinois on opposite sides of the Mississippi river. The area is named after Canadian fur trapper Julien Dubuque who became one of the first Europeans to settle on the west bank of the Mississippi. He poured kerosine on top of the river by the banks and lit it on fire. This bit of trickery struck fire into the natives, and they allowed him to settle.
RiverBluff’s owners were raised there and wanted to do all they could to help the community. It all started with a CBD operation in East Dubuque called RiverBluff Collective that moved from a household kitchen into a highly successful hemp store. They honed their methods, invested in the community, and built relationships in the industry as they waited to someday get a license for a recreational cannabis dispensary. When that day came, it led them to Roselle and another dream that came true. The owners aren’t the type to just rest and reflect. They want to change the cannabis industry for in Illinois and then nationwide!
The Owners
RiverBluff Cannabis’s owners are a tight knit group. 3 siblings and a friend who met in the East Dubuque, IL/Dubuque, IA tri-state area have continued to fight the good fight from the beginning. If you haven’t had the chance to meet them in the store yet, here is a little introduction to the group.
- Ali: In 2010 Ali and her husband, Ray, took a leap from what was familiar and adventured across the country from East Dubuque to Denver, Colorado. They voted for Amendment 64 that marked Colorado as one of the first states to legalize in 2012 and that played an important part in shaping RiverBluff into the company it is today! - DJ: Before starting the RiverBluff business with his siblings, Ali & Joe, DJ honorably served in the United States Army. He served with the 2nd squadron 17th Cavalry Unit in the distinguished 101st Airborne Division. DJ returned to East Dubuque where he dedicated over 14 years to the realm of business finance. DJ is now focusing on running and expanding RiverBluff operations to help as many people as possible get access to products that can enhance their lives. From making CBD products in a kitchen to making a whole host of hemp-derived products on a larger scale to opening a Hemp storefront to owning an adult-use recreational cannabis dispensary in Illinois, RiverBluff Cannabis’s owners show no signs of slowing down! The natural progression for RiverBluff was to start producing cannabis, and now with a craft grow license, they have their opportunity to do just that. RiverBluff plans to have their craft grow operational within the next year and finally bring its own brand of cannabis to the community.
